Janangelo Withdraws From Bloomfield Event

Liz Janangelo will not play in the ING New England Golf Classic this week at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield because of a right hip injury that forced her to withdraw early in the second round of the U.S. Open Friday in Oakmont, Pa.

"The pain has been off and on this year," Janangelo said Sunday. "But when I woke up Thursday before the first round of the U.S. Open, it was awful."

Janangelo, an LPGA Tour player from West Hartford, shot an 84 in the opening round at Oakmont Country Club. She started the second round with a bogey and then made two pars before the pain in her hip was too much for her to continue.

She's scheduled to see an orthopedic specialist today and will have a MRI on her hip sometime this week. She plans on being an ambassador this week for the $100,000 ING New England Golf Classic, a Duramed Futures Tour event that begins Friday.

"I feel badly about not being able to play at Wintonbury," she said. "I'll be involved in the 'Meet The Pros' party and appearances at Hartford Hospital and St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

"As for me physically, I'm taking it day to day and see what the diagnosis is and then go from there."
