Giving up nine goals in a game is bad, let alone nine in one quarter," Bayhawks defenseman Mike Evans said. "It's tough to come back from that kind of deficit, but I think we showed some heart by coming back and getting within three at one point."

Towson's Hoff sets meet mark in 400 free at L.A. Grand Prix

Olympian Katie Hoff of Towson set the meet record in the women's 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4 minutes, 6.21 seconds at the Los Angeles Grand Prix. Hoff's time was nearly three seconds faster than the former meet record of 4:09.04, set by Costa Rica's Claudia Poll in 2000. She finished more than three seconds ahead of 2008 Olympic teammate Kate Ziegler of Fairfax, Va., who touched in 4:09.44. "That's the first time this year my stroke clicked and everything I've been working on in the last year has come together," Hoff said.

MLS: Goalkeepers Bouna Coundoul of the host New York Red Bulls and Troy Perkins of D.C. United each made one good save in a 0-0 tie. The draw allowed the Red Bulls (8-5-2) to extend their unbeaten streak to five (3-0-2). D.C. United (3-9-3) has two wins and three ties in its last six games.

Varsity: The Under-13 Girls PSC Baltimore 97 team won the U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 championship last weekend in Huntington, W.Va.
