The Naval Academy Athletic Association is constructing four development boxes, a television media center and camera locations on the upper east side of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The construction will be finished in time for Navy's home opener against Georgia Southern on Sept. 11. The relocation of the television production will allow CBS College Sports to better capture the Navy sideline and Brigade of Midshipmen. In order to enhance the stadium's Americans with Disability Act capabilities, two new elevators will make stops at the lower portion of the upper deck to allow fans easier access to their seats via a pedestrian bridge. In addition, the tower will have four boxes for hospitality and game-day entertainment. The four boxes will add to the 26 now there and allow the Athletic Association to address a lengthy waiting list for development suites. Revenue generated by the suites will be used to pay for constructing the tower. … Navy and Hawaii are in talks to create a home-and-home series, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported. The newspaper quoted a Navy spokesman as saying the talks were "tentative" and that barring changes, the Mids might not have a nonconference opening until 2017. Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo is a Hawaii native and former quarterback and assistant coach at the school. The Rainbow Warriors beat the Mids, 24-17, at Aloha Stadium in November.
Graham's 2 goals lift Bays U-18 team into national finals
Brian Graham (Bowie) scored twice and the Baltimore Bays Chelsea under-18 team advanced to the national finals of the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy League by defeating the Chicago Fire, 2-1, on Tuesday in Greensboro, N.C. The national finals will be held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., from July 10 to July 17. The under-18 Bays team joins the under-16 Bays team, which qualified for the national finals Monday.
Langhorne has double-double in 68-65 win over rival Fever
Crystal Langhorne (Maryland) finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and the Washington Mystics held off the Indiana Fever, 68-65. The Mystics (10-5), who have won six of their last seven overall and improved to 7-1 at home, nearly let a nine-point lead with 4:16 left slip away. Katie Smith made five 3-pointers for a season-high 21 points for the Mystics.
Viewing festival for World Cup final to be held at Inner Harbor Baysox: Four players were named to the Western Division team for the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game on July 14 in Harrisburg, Pa. Left-handed pitcher Zach Britton and left fielder Tyler Henson were voted to the game by fans, and first baseman Joel Guzman and right-handed pitcher Pedro Beato also were selected. Britton is unable to pitch in the All-Star Game after being named to the U.S. team for the XM Futures Game on July 11 in Anaheim, Calif.

Women's College track and field: Towson junior Ashley Adams was chosen as the CAA co-Female Athlete of the Year by a vote of the league's head coaches. Adams was the CAA champion in the 100-meter hurdles (13.66) and the 400 hurdles (59.92), and broke seven individual school records (three outdoors, four indoors) this season.
Golf: Karishma Thiagaraj of Rockville birdied the second playoff hole from five feet to defeat defending champion Elyse Smidinger for the 35th annual Junior Girls championship of the Maryland State Golf Association at Rolling Road Golf Club in Catonsville. Thiagaraj, 17, the 2008 champion, and Smidinger, 16, an Arundel High School junior from Crofton, had matching rounds of 78-80 — 158 in regulation play. Smidinger forced the playoff by making up two shots with winning pars at the 15th and 17th holes.
