Outlaws hold off Bayhawks, 20-16, move into tie for first

Midfielder Dan Hardy scored four goals and had two assists as the Denver Outlaws built a big lead, then held off the Chesapeake Bayhawks, 20-16, before an announced 3,483 on Saturday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Midfielder Max Seibald also scored four goals, while attackman Drew Westervelt added three goals and an assist for Denver. Goalkeeper Jesse Schwartzman (Johns Hopkins) made 17 saves to anchor a strong defensive effort by Denver (4-2), which moved into a tie with Chesapeake for first place in the MLL. Chesapeake goalie Chris Garrity made 13 saves on 30 shots. Alex Smith won 21 of 35 faceoffs for the Bayhawks, who shot poorly and could not take advantage of the extra possessions. Midfielder Brian Vetter (Towson University, Annapolis) had a hat trick for Chesapeake.

Dungey wins at Budds Creek, continues his 450 dominance

Ryan Dungey won his third consecutive 450 Class race during the AMA Pro Motocross event at Budds Creek Motocross Park in Mechanicsville. Dungey, the current 450 Class points leader, carried a four-moto win streak into Budds Creek but had to settle for third in Moto 1 behind Honda Red Bull Racing's Andrew Short and Jagermeister KTM's Mike Alessi after an early crash.

Own goal helps Crystal Palace Baltimore tie Carolina, 1-1

The host Carolina RailHawks (3-2-5) earned a 1-1 tie with Crystal Palace Baltimore (3-6-3) on a penalty kick by Floyd Franks in the 51st minute. Palace Baltimore scored on an own goal by RailHawks defender Matt Bobo in the 22nd minute.

Nemeth, Grier lead Mariners to 84-6 rout of Revolution

Led by three touchdown passes by E.J. Nemeth and three rushing touchdowns by Isaiah Grier, the Mariners ran their record to 13-0 by defeating the visiting New Jersey Revolution, 84-6, in the American Indoor Football Association.

NephCure Walk set for next Saturday at Camden Yards

Former Orioles executive Jim Duquette and his family will participate in the NephCure Walk on Saturday outside Camden Yards. The event raises money to benefit The NephCure Foundation, which seeks a cure for the kidney diseases FSGS (focal segmental glomerulosclerosis) and nephrotic syndrome. Duquette's 8-year-old daughter, Lindsey, suffers from FSGS. Registration is at 12:30 p.m. at Sliders Bar & Grill. The walk around the perimeter of Camden Yards will begin at 2 p.m., with participants entering the ballpark around 3:30 p.m. for the 4 p.m. game against the Washington Nationals. WNBA: Katie Smith scored five of her season-high 17 points in overtime as the host Washington Mystics rallied for a 65-61 victory over the Chicago Sky. The Mystics (7-4) rallied from 13 points down in the first half and matched a season high with their third straight win.

Cycling: Jure Robic won the Race Across America for a record fifth time Friday, completing the transcontinental bicycle race in Annapolis in 9 days, 1 hour, 1 minute. The Slovenian averaged 13.85 mph over the 3,004 miles in the 29th annual race. He was about 180 miles ahead of his nearest competitor.
