Deal for Leonsis to buy team, Verizon Center is official

Ted Leonsis, chairman and CEO of newly created Monumental Sports & Entertainment, announced Thursday that he and his partners have officially completed the transaction to purchase the Washington Wizards and Verizon Center. Monumental Sports & Entertainment also includes the Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va., and George Mason University's Patriot Center.

Mariners to host Eastern Conference title game July 10

The Baltimore Mariners (11-0) will host the American Indoor Football Association Eastern Conference championship game July 10 at 7 p.m. at 1st Mariner Arena. If the Mariners win, they will earn the right to host AIFA Bowl IV.

St. Mary's College: Four former student-athletes will be inducted into the school's Hall of Fame on Oct. 1 as part of the annual Hawktober Festival. The inductees are Carol (Schmoeller) Hatton (Catonsville), Alun Oliver, Mia Oliver and Michael Loughran, who will be enshrined as an Athletic Legend.

Navy: Quarterback Ricky Dobbs will be honored Sunday in his hometown of Douglasville, Ga., for his accomplishments on and off the gridiron. Gospel singer Dottie Peoples and Rep. David Scott, Georgia Democrat, are among those set to honor Dobbs at the Alice Hawthorne Center.

D.C. United: The club announced that defender Rodney Wallace underwent successful surgery on his fractured left fibula. Wallace, who suffered the injury Saturday, will miss eight to 12 weeks.
