For a team averaging a meager 2.3 runs per game in three Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference playoff contests, No. 7 Calvert Hall is still finding ways to win behind Dominic Sgroi and Ryan Swearingen.
On Wednesday, Sgroi led the top-seeded Cardinals (23-10) to a 1-0 win over No. 8 Archbishop Spalding at Carol Crispino Stadium.
Calvert Hall could capture a program-best sixth consecutive conference championship this weekend.
Alex Lenovitz's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh knocked the Cavaliers (24-8) out of the double-elimination postseason tournament.
Calvert Hall must now wait for the outcome of today's Loyola-Gilman game to know when it will play next.
