Saint Mary's stuns 'Nova

Baltimore Sun

Saint Mary's, a small school from Moraga, Calif., north of Oakland, pulled off a huge upset Saturday, knocking off No. 2 seed Villanova, 75-68, in the NCAA tournament.

Even when the Wildcats made a run at the Gaels, Saint Mary's had an answer, and it usually came from center Omar Samhan, who had his way inside against the Wildcats, scoring 32 points and pulling down seven rebounds.

"Number One. Best win ever. Quote it," Samhan said.

With the win in Providence, R.I., Saint Mary's heads to the Sweet Sixteen, where it will face Baylor.

Villanova made an early exit a year after it played in the Final Four. The Wildcats started 20-1 but limped to a 5-7 finish and Saturday's loss.
