Lions acquire former Terps QB Hill in trade with 49ers

Baltimore Sun

The San Francisco 49ers agreed to a trade that would send backup quarterback Shaun Hill (Maryland) to the Detroit Lions for a 2011 draft pick. The move cleared room for the 49ers to sign free-agent quarterback David Carr. Although Hill was 10-6 in games he started for the 49ers, he was replaced by former No. 1 overall draft pick Alex Smith in the second half of a Week 7 loss to the Houston Texans and never regained his starting job.

College softball: Washington College freshman first baseman-outfielder Shaelan Nottingham was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week after she hit .571 in helping the Shorewomen go 4-0.

College baseball: Stevenson sophomore first baseman Justin Anderson (Calvert Hall) was named Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
