Noteworthy: The scary thing for Bill Self, coach of the No. 1-ranked Jayhawks? They rank 265th (of 344 teams) in average experience.

8Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels Record: 25-8.

How they got here: At-large bid.

Key players: G Tre'Von Willis (6-4 jr.), 17.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg, G/F Chace Stanback (6-8, so.), 10.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg; G Oscar Bellfield (6-2 jr.), 9.3 ppg, 5.6 apg.

Noteworthy: UNLV's roster features transfers from high-profile programs Kentucky, UCLA, Arizona State and Memphis.

5Michigan State Spartans Record: 24-8.

How they got here: At-large bid.

Key players: G Kalin Lucas (6-1 jr.), 14.8 ppg, 3.9 apg; F Raymar Morgan (6-4 sr.), 11.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg.

Noteworthy: Michigan State clinched a share of its 12th Big Ten title. Tom Izzo became the sixth coach in Big Ten history with at least six conference championships.

4Maryland Terrapins Record: 23-8.

How they got here: At-large bid.

Key players: G Greivis Vasquez (6-6 sr.), 19.6 ppg, 6.3 apg; F Landon Milbourne (6-7 sr.), 12.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg.

Noteworthy: Talented senior guards are valuable in March, and Maryland has a great one in Vasquez, the ACC Player of the Year, and another pretty good one in Eric Hayes.

16Lehigh Mountain Hawks Record: 21-10.

How they got here: Won the Patriot League tournament.

Key players: G C.J. McCollum (6-3 fr.), 18.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg; G Marquis Hall (6-0 sr.), 11.3 ppg.

Noteworthy: McCollum is the first player in Patriot League history to win conference player of the year and rookie of the year awards in the same season.

9Northern Iowa Panthers Record: 28-4.

How they got here: Won Missouri Valley tournament.

Key players: G Kwadzo Ahelegbe (6-2 jr.), 10.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg; C Jordan Eglseder (7-0 sr.), 12.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg; F Adam Koch (6-8 sr.), 12.4 ppg.

Noteworthy: Northern Iowa won the MVC tournament for the second straight year, the first to do that since Illinois State in 1997-98.

12New Mexico State Aggies Record: 22-11.

How they got here: Won Western Athletic tournament.

Key players: G Jahmar Young (6-5 jr.), 20.5 ppg; G Jonathan Gibson (6-2 sr.), 17.7 ppg.

Noteworthy: The Aggies overcame a terrible start to the season once forwards Troy Gillenwater and Wendell McKines worked their way back from academic problems.

13Houston Cougars Record: 19-15.

How they got here: Won Conference USA tournament.

Key players: G Aubrey Coleman (6-4 sr.), 26.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg; G Kelvin Lewis (6-4 sr.), 15.1 ppg.

Noteworthy: Coleman, an NBA draft prospect, was the nation's leading scorer and ranked second in steals per game during the regular season.

2Ohio State Buckeyes Record: 27-7.

How they got here: Won Big Ten tournament.

Key players: G-F Evan Turner (6-7 jr.), 19.5 ppg, 5.8 apg, 9.4 rpg; G William Buford (6-5 so.), 14.3 ppg; G-F David Lighty (6-5 jr.), 12.4 ppg.

Noteworthy: Thad Matta led Ohio State to a share of the Big Ten regular-season title, its third in six years - something the Buckeyes haven't done since Fred Taylor in 1960-64.

7Oklahoma State Cowboys Record: 22-10.

How they got here: At-large bid.

Key players: G James Anderson (6-6 jr.), 22.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg; G Obi Muonelo (6-5 sr.), 13.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg; F Marshall Moses (6-7 jr.), 9.0 ppg, 8.6 rpg.

Noteworthy: Anderson scored at least 20 points against every Big 12 rival.

6Tennessee Volunteers Record: 24-8.

How they got here: At-large bid.

Key players: G/F Scotty Hopson (6-8, so.), 13.1 ppg; F Wayne Chism (6-9 sr.), 12.8 ppg, 6.9 rpg; PG Bobby Maze (6-3 sr.), 9.5 ppg.

Noteworthy: Coach Bruce Pearl deserves praise for keeping the Vols together after the dismissal of Tyler Smith, the Vols' best player, and the suspension of three others.

3Georgetown Hoyas Record: 23-10.

How they got here: At-large bid.

Key players: C Greg Monroe (6-11 so.), 16.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 3.5 apg; G Austin Freeman (6-4 jr.), 16.9 ppg; G Chris Wright (6-1 jr.), 14.2 ppg.

Noteworthy: The Hoyas, at 10-8, didn't have a great Big East showing, but they made a statement by defeating third-ranked Syracuse in the conference tournament.

15UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos Record: 20-9.

How they got here: Won Big West tourney.

Key players: F Orlando Johnson (6-5 so.), 17.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg; F James Nunnally (6-5 so.), 14.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg; G James Powell (6-2 sr.), 9.5 ppg.

Noteworthy: Johnson, the Big West Player of the Year, and Nunnally scored 47.5 percent of the team's points, making them the highest-scoring sophomore duo in school history.

10Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Record: 22-12.

How they got here: At-large bid.

Key players: F Gani Lawal (6-9 jr.), 13.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg; F Derrick Favors (6-10 fr.), 11.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg; G Iman Shumpert (6-5 so.), 9.8 ppg.

Noteworthy: Georgia Tech has a lot of talent, but this is a team that has been maddening to figure out. They won just twice in their final seven games entering the ACC tournament.

11San Diego State Aztecs Record: 25-8.

How they got here: Won Mountain West tournament.

Key players: F Kawi Leonard (6-7 fr.), 12.6 ppg, 9.6 rpg; F Malcolm Thomas (6-9 jr.), 11.1 ppg, 7.9 rpg; G D.J. Gay (6-0 jr.), 10.6 ppg, 3.2 apg.

Noteworthy: San Diego State coach Steve Fisher is 20-8 in the NCAA tournament.

14Ohio Bobcats Record: 21-14.

How they got here: Won Mid-American tournament.

Key players: G Armon Bassett (6-2 jr.), 15.5 ppg, 3.4 apg; G D.J. Cooper (5-11 fr.), 13.5 ppg.

Noteworthy: The Bobcats have plenty of versatility and offensive options. Five players are double-digit scorers, and a sixth averages 9.7 points per game.
