Blast loses in OT to KiXX, ending 6-game winning streak

Baltimore Sun

The visiting Philadelphia KiXX kept alive their flickering postseason hopes with an 8-6 overtime victory over the Blast before an announced 6,318 at 1st Mariner Arena. The defeat ended a season-best six-game winning streak for the Blast (11-8), which had already clinched a playoff spot, and was the first victory in the season series for Philadelphia (7-9), a loser to the Blast four times. KiXX goalie Nick Hovaker II made three outstanding saves in the overtime period, when the Blast applied intense pressure before Philadelphia scored the game-winner off a free kick, Semir Mesanovic getting the goal off an assist by Ricardinho. In a makeup of a game originally scheduled for Feb. 12 but postponed because of blizzard conditions that weekend, Baltimore took a 6-4 lead into the waning moments of regulation before a holding penalty against Scott Buete opened the door for the KiXX. Player-coach Don D'Ambra beat Dave Kern at 13:54 on the power play, Mesanovic supplying the pass, to force the extra session. - Kent Baker
