Ellenberger new hoops coach at College of Notre Dame

Kristi Ellenberger has been hired as basketball coach at the College of Notre Dame, athletic director Michael Spinner announced Friday. Ellenberger replaces Kirsten Russell, who had served as interim coach since November. That month, the Gators canceled their season after just one game because of serious injuries to players. Ellenberger had coached the Northeast High girls basketball program since October 2007. The coach, a Baltimore resident, will continue to teach health at Northeast.

Men's basketball: Camontae Griffin (Dunbar) had a game-high 26 points as host St. Mary's fell to Franklin & Marshall, 92-87, in an NCAA Division III quarterfinal. The Seahawks (26-4) led 48-44 at the half but were outscored by nine points in the second half. Georgio Milligan had 22 points for the Diplomats (26-4). ... Loyola coach Jimmy Patsos and Towson coach Pat Kennedy will discuss this year's NCAA tournament and give their predictions at 6:30 p.m. March 25 at Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards. After the discussion, food and drinks will be provided as fans watch an NCAA East Regional game in the museum's theater. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased by calling 410-727-1539.

Men's lacrosse: Tom Perini's four goals led Lafayette to a 15-8 victory over No. 12 Navy in Easton, Pa. The Leopards had a 41-26 advantage in ground balls. Joe Lennon, Andy Warner and Brian Striffler each had two goals for the Midshipmen.
