Defensive back Carroll impresses on Terps' pro day

Twelve former Terps football players participated in Maryland's Pro Timing Day in College Park, working out for approximately 35 representatives from 27 NFL teams. Defensive back Nolan Carroll, who did not participate in drills at the NFL combine, was impressive during his workout Wednesday, posting the top marks in the 40-yard dash (4.39), pro agility drill (4.21) and L drill (6.81). Carroll also did 17 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press and had a vertical jump of 37 1/2 inches.

MEAC: The MEAC announced that Savannah State has been extended provisional membership beginning July 1. Savannah State originally applied for membership in 2006 but faced an NCAA probationary period soon after; the membership application was deferred until the completion of the probation last May. Winston-Salem State will return to Division II after this school year.

SOFTBALL: Maryland sophomore Kendra Knight was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Week. ... The Colonial Athletic Association named Towson sophomore Dominique Ortega Pitcher of the Week. ... Mount St. Mary's freshman Kristen Collins was selected as Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week. ... Frostburg State sophomore Megan Magee was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week.
