Edward L. Athey, who was Washington College's athletic director for 38 years, died at his Chestertown home Sunday, the school announced. He was 88. Athey, who attended Frostburg College and Washington, taught physical education at Washington and was head coach in baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis and track, as well as junior varsity lacrosse. He retired as AD in 1987.
