Atkinson chosen to coach Towson volleyball team

Baltimore Sun

Towson hired Bruce Atkinson to become the 10th volleyball coach in the program's 32-year history, athletic director Mike Hermann announced. Atkinson was the coach at the University of Hawaii at Hilo for the past three seasons, leading the Vulcans to a 69-14 overall record. He was named PacWest Coach of the Year in 2007, when the Vulcans finished 23-5, and in 2009, when the team went 25-2 and made its first postseason appearance in more than a decade. "He obviously has a very successful track record as a coach, but he also brings great passion and enthusiasm for the sport, along with a can-do attitude," Hermann said. Atkinson has also served as coach at the University of Texas at Brownsville and Dana College in Nebraska.

Maryland: The Terrapins baseball team's game against Delaware scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday was postponed. The Terps and Blue Hens will play a doubleheader at noon today and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Shipley Field at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.

UMES: The Hawks baseball team's home opening series with Rider scheduled for this weekend at Hawks Stadium was postponed because of unplayable field conditions. The series will begin Sunday with a doubleheader at noon and conclude with another doubleheader starting at noon Monday.

McDaniel: The Green Terror men's lacrosse opener at Moravian on Saturday was moved to McDaniel and the start time was pushed back from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. because of a winter storm in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. Sunday's Green Terror baseball opener at Catholic has also been postponed. It will now be played at McDaniel on April 28. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
