Freshman Cohen named starting goalkeeper for UMBC

Baltimore Sun

UMBC coach Don Zimmerman named freshman Adam Cohen (Severn) his starting goalkeeper. Senior Kevin Kohri (Century) started the No. 19 Retrievers' season-opening triple-overtime loss to No. 18 Delaware on Saturday, and Cohen played after halftime. "I just feel that Adam gives us a little bit more outside the pipes," Zimmerman said. "Kevin's always been a good stopper for us. His clearing game would probably be considered his weaker point. Adam, I think, has been steady in the goal, but outside the goal, he's very proficient." Zimmerman said he would have no qualms about inserting Kohri if Cohen struggles. ... In other UMBC news, senior short-stick defensive midfielder Jordan Pierce (Mount St. Joseph) did not suffer a broken arm as initially feared and could suit up for Saturday's game at Rutgers despite a deep bone bruise. Also, sophomore faceoff specialist Justin Radebaugh will likely miss Saturday's game because of the lingering effects from a concussion.

Women: Seventh-ranked Georgetown (1-0) used a 7-2 second-half run to break open a two-goal game en route to a 15-9 win over visiting Johns Hopkins (1-1). Senior Paige Ibello (Maryvale) led Hopkins with her fifth career hat trick.
