Navy's Paul tears ACL, likely gone for season

Baltimore Sun

No. 6 Navy's 8-7 overtime loss to No. 13 Loyola on Saturday was doubly painful as the Midshipmen (1-1) will likely have to finish the remainder of the season without senior attackman Tim Paul. Paul, the team's leading scorer last year with 32 points on 18 goals and 14 assists, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, coach Richie Meade confirmed Monday. Paul, a Parkton native and Loyola graduate, suffered the injury with about two minutes left in regulation and did not return. - Edward Lee

Honors: Virginia sophomore attackman Steele Stanwick (Loyola) was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week after scoring three goals and adding two assists in a win at Drexel. ... Loyola senior attacker Cooper MacDonnell and junior goalkeeper Jake Hagelin (Boys' Latin School) were named the ECAC Offensive and Co-Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. MacDonnell had six goals, including the game-winner in overtime, and an assist in an 8-7 win over Navy.

Q&A: Four local coaches - Towson's Tony Seaman, Johns Hopkins' Dave Pietramala, Loyola's Charley Toomey and UMBC's Don Zimmerman - will participate in a question-and-answer session at ESPNZone on East Pratt Street from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
