Second-half surge pushes Loyola past Niagara, 71-63

Loyola (12-15, 7-9) shot 56 percent from the field in the second half and rallied to a 71-63 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over visiting Niagara (12-15, 9-7). Meredith Tolley scored 21 points and had five rebounds in helping the Greyhounds to their largest margin of victory since a 74-57 win over Manhattan on Jan. 15. Miriam McKenzie (Oakland Mills) added 17 points and tied her career high with 11 rebounds.

More Division I games: Host UNC Wilmington (10-16, 5-10) took a five-point halftime lead and held off a second-half charge by Towson (13-13, 7-8) for a 64-57 Colonial Athletic Association victory. The Tigers got a game-high 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss from Katrina Wheeler. ... Vermont (22-5, 12-2) pulled away from visiting UMBC (12-15, 6-8) over the last six minutes for a 67-50 America East win. The Retrievers got to within 44-43, with 6:35 remaining, but Catamounts guard Sofia Iwobi made a 3-pointer 30 seconds later, sparking a game-ending 23-7 run during which UMBC committed six turnovers. Michelle Kurowski led the Retrievers with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
