Bibby dead at 65; faced O's in Game 7 of '79 Series

Baltimore Sun

Jim Bibby, who started games 4 and 7 as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Orioles in the 1979 World Series, died Tuesday night at Lynchburg (Va.) General Hospital. He was 65. Bibby pitched in the major leagues from 1972 to 1984 and had the first no-hitter in Texas Rangers history, beating the Oakland A's, 6-0 in 1973. He also pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Indians.

Nationals: Reliever Brian Bruney lost in salary arbitration on his birthday. Bruney, who turned 28 Wednesday, was awarded $1.5 million instead of his request for $1.85 million; he was 5-0 with a 3.92 ERA in 44 regular-season games for the Yankees last season.
