Former Loyola soccer player Sarra Moller, now a Greyhounds assistant coach, has signed a contract to play for Kvarnsvedens IK, a professional women's soccer team in Sweden. Moller is the first Loyola women's soccer player to play professionally overseas. Moller concluded her college playing career in 2008 by earning All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference first-team honors for the fourth consecutive year. She was the conference's Defensive Player of the Year during her freshman and senior seasons.
NHL: The Washington Capitals recalled goaltender Braden Holtby from Hershey of the American Hockey League to back up Michal Neuvirth. Jos� Theodore left after the second period of Tuesday night's win over the Islanders with a lower body injury and is day-to-day, and fellow goalie Semyon Varlamov has been sidelined since early December with knee and groin injuries. The Capitals assigned defenseman Karl Alzner to Hershey.
Pro basketball: The Maryland GreenHawks of the Premier Basketball League agreed to terms with combo guard Lamar Castile, who played two years at Beaver County Community College and has since played in the CBA, in Rome and Mexico, and in the PBL with the Buffalo Stampede, where he averaged 20 points.
Golf: Danny Balin of Rockville finished tied for second at the PGA Stroke Play Championship at The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., with Jeff Sorenson of Blaine, Minn. They were three strokes behind Frank Esposito of Florham Park, N.J., who shot 67-69-69-71-276 on the par-72, 7,020-yard Wanamaker course.
