Two reserve players for the No. 19 Georgetown women's team were suspended for Saturday's 74-65 win over visiting DePaul for their roles in a pre-game skirmish. The school did not say which players were punished, but a check of the official score book before the game indicated that sophomore forward Tia McBride and senior guard Kenya Kirkland were not listed as eligible for the game. McBride, who had played in each of the Hoyas' previous 18 games, averages 2.3 points, and Kirkland, a team captain who had played in 17 games, averages one point. Team spokeswoman Barbara Jonas said earlier in the week that the school's administration "did not feel it was fair to name the players." Players from both teams scuffled more than an hour before the Hoyas' game against Louisville on Jan. 15. The incident was caught on camera, and the suspensions were handed out based on a review of the tape by administrators and the coaching staff.
