What the O's players are saying about Tejada

The news that the Orioles and Miguel Tejada had agreed to terms on a one-year, $6 million deal was well received by several players and coaches at Saturday's FanFest.

Starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie

"As a player, I love watching him. I love the passion he plays with and the excitement. His desire to be on the field is commendable. He's going to be a great addition for any team and if we're fortunate enough to finalize the deal, I think we're a better team because of it."

Second baseman Brian Roberts

"I couldn't remember why people say he left on a bad note. This city knows what Miggi did for this team and for this organization. He was one of the first guys to come here and really take a big contract, be a big name and come here and say, 'You know what, I want to help rebuild this team and this organization.' I don't think he did anything to deter from that. He played in All-Star games. He drove in 150 runs one year. He did what he came here to do. It's just the rest of our organization wasn't at the point where we were ready to succeed at that time."

Infielder Ty Wigginton

"Miggi is an unbelievable teammate. He's one of the most popular teammates I've had. He keeps the clubhouse loose. He's just a fun guy in general and he brings an energy to every club that he's on. I know in Houston, he was a major reason that club was so much fun to play on."

Outfielder Nick Markakis

If there's anybody in baseball you'd want on your team, it's him. He's high energy, he wants to win everyday. He goes out there and plays every day. Those are the types of guys you want on your team. I can't wait to go to spring training and see him. When I first got up here, I was looking up to guys, like Tejada, guys of that caliber."

Third base coach Juan Samuel

"Yeah, [I was a little bit surprised]. He really never came across to me as a candidate to play that spot as a third baseman. But hey, we all know what kind of guy he is. He's a good teammate, a good guy to have in the clubhouse so we're excited."

Hitting coach Terry Crowley

"He's always been a good hitter. If he has slowed down, he has plenty of room to slow down and still be a good hitter. It's all about being comfortable with the team, being comfortable with the teammates. It's going to be a good thing if we end up getting him."
