Brittany Thornton, Joppatowne, basketballThe senior point guard showed off all her talents in leading the No. 14 Mariners to a key Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference win over then-No. 13 and unbeaten Aberdeen, 62-55, last week. Thornton, 5 feet 10, had 17 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Her 3-pointer with 2:44 left sealed the win. An Amateur Athletic Union veteran with the Maryland Elite, Thornton also contributed to wins over Bel Air and Glen Burnie last week. She averages 9.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.4 steals. She has a 3.5 grade-point average and plans to play basketball in college.
