Selanne could be out for Olympics

Baltimore Sun

Teemu Selanne might not make his fifth appearance at the Olympics for Finland. The Ducks star had surgery on his broken jaw Thursday, and the team said he is expected to be out for two to six weeks.

A deflected shot hit Selanne's face Wednesday night in the Ducks' 4-3 victory over the Bruins.

Selanne has been the top scorer at the Olympics twice, including at the 2006 Turin Games, when he helped the Finns win silver. Finland's first game at the Vancouver Olympics is Feb. 17 against Belarus.

•Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson returned Thursday against the Hurricanes after missing 12 games with a bruised left kneecap. The Wings have been plagued by injuries and are still without forwards Johan Franzen (knee), Jason Williams (broken leg) and Tomas Holmstrom (broken foot) and defenseman Niklas Kronwall (knee).
