Mount St. Joe suffers 1st loss

Ryley Beaumont's shot from beyond the arc rolled around the rim but would not fall as the final horn sounded, and top-ranked Mount St. Joseph (10-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 56-53, to Cedar Hill (Texas) in the opening round of the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Monday.

The Gaels were paced by Eric Atkins' 18 points and Beaumont's 16 points and seven rebounds.

In another first-round game, Scott County of Kentucky (6-2) built a 21-point lead in the second half and cruised to a 75-64 victory over No. 3 St. Frances (5-4).

No. 2 Calvert Hall 65, Bullis 50: Senior center Jonathan Graham led all scorers with 19 points as the Cardinals (8-2) defeated the Bulldogs (4-2) at the Capital City Classic in Richmond, Va.

GirlsNo. 8 Meade 71, Severna Park 50: Senior guard Alissa Chambliss had 23 points as the Mustangs (7-0) defeated the host Falcons (1-5). Sophomore guard Imani Bailey had 16 points, 12 steals and 11 assists.
