Alfredsson may be out for a month

Baltimore Sun

Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson will be out "weeks" with what is suspected to be a separated shoulder, according to the Ottawa Sun.

Alfredsson hurt his shoulder in the first period of Wednesday's 8-2 loss to the Penguins.

A Swedish newspaper reported Thursday that Alfredsson will be out for four weeks but should be ready to play for Sweden in the Vancouver Olympics.

The Senators began play Saturday in seventh place in the Eastern Conference and are already without center Jason Spezza and winger Nick Foligno. Both have knee injuries.

"That's a big loss," Senators goalie Pascal Leclaire told the Sun. "He's definitely our leader and a key player on our team."
