Gretzky: Hockey on back burner

Baltimore Sun

Wayne Gretzky says he is unsure about his hockey future.

"You know what, I don't know what the future holds for me," he told ESPN.com on Wednesday. "I honestly don't know."

The NHL lost Gretzky in September when he stepped down as coach of the Coyotes. He has kept a low profile since and is enjoying life back in Los Angeles with his family. For now, hockey is on the back burner. "I love the game," Gretzky said. "Yeah, there are days I really miss it. But the reality is everything happens for a reason and I don't see myself doing anything for at least a year and a half."

•Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson expects to miss "at least a few weeks" after injuring his left shoulder. "I'll see the doctor and do an X-ray and see what the damage is."
