Knee costs Celtics' Pierce 2 weeks

Baltimore Sun

Celtics forward Paul Pierce had fluid drained from his right knee Wednesday and will miss the next two weeks.

Pierce did not make the flight to Orlando, Fla., for a Christmas Day game against the Magic, one day after Kevin Garnett missed his first game of the season with a thigh bruise.

The Celtics are on a six-day, four-game trip that includes games against the Clippers, Warriors and Suns before they return home for a Jan. 2 game against the Raptors.

Pierce could be back for a Jan. 6 game at Miami.

The 2008 NBA Finals MVP had played in every game this season, leading the team with an average of 18.2 points.

•Bobcats center Tyson Chandler has a stress reaction in his left foot and will be out at least a week. He was injured in the second half Tuesday against the Pistons. ... Pau Gasol agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Lakers through the 2013-14 season that could be worth more than $60 million depending on future salary caps. ... Clippers forward Blake Griffin has been cleared for tougher workouts on his broken left kneecap - including running on an anti-gravity treadmill - moving the No. 1 draft pick closer to his NBA debut.
