The Washington Freedom has agreed to terms with Norwegian International forward Lene Mykjaland for the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer season, the team announced. Mykjaland's signing is pending the league's approval. Mykjaland, a member of Roa in Norway's Toppserien league, is also a veteran member of the Norwegian women's national team. She made her debut for the senior team March 7, 2007, in a match against Germany. She quickly became one of the league's top talents, and has also established herself on the Norwegian national senior squad, having been called up to both the 2007 Women's World Cup and the 2008 Summer Olympics team. "Lene will bring different abilities as an attacking player," Freedom coach Jim Gabarra said. "We look for many things in a player, and Lene fills quite a few of them. She is a proven goal scorer, a winner, technically very good, tactically intelligent, works hard and is a good teammate. Lene is a very technical player that makes very intelligent runs, and it will be exciting to watch her adapt to WPS."Said Mykjaland: "To live and play soccer in the U.S has always been a dream for me. It's the best league with the best players in the world, and to get that opportunity to play on that level, and to play professionally, is amazing." Mykjaland will report to the Freedom and begin training with the team in March.
