The No. 4 Dunbar girls basketball team started slowly Monday night, feeling the effects of a 17-day layoff, but outscored visiting Forestville from Prince George's County, 34-13, in the second half to take a 58-25 win in a Class 1A South regional quarterfinal. Michelle Wright lead all scorers with 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Shylia Buie chipped in with 10 points and Serra Johnson added 10.
No. 1 Aberdeen 72, Franklin 41: Brionna Jones scored 25 points to lead the host Eagles over the Indians in a 3A North regional quarterfinal game. Kierra Palmer added 11 points and eight assists. Aberdeen hosts the No. 7 Rams of Digital Harbor on Wednesday.
No. 7 Digital Harbor 68, Eastern Tech 20: The Rams (18-7) had four players in double figures, led by A'Lexus Harrison's 14, as they overpowered the Mavericks in a 3A North regional quarterfinal game. Digital Harbor extended its defense, made Eastern Tech put the ball on the floor and forced turnovers that led to easy fast break layups. The Rams led 43-8 at the half.
No. 9 Meade 60, Arundel 49: Imani Bailey led all scorers with 25 points as the Mustangs (17-6) defeated the Wildcats in the 4A East quarterfinals at Meade. Sandra Davis had 14 for Arundel.
No. 10 Milford Mill 51, Patterson 28: The Millers (24-0) were led by Dionna White's 17 points as a 27-point second-half got the best of the Clippers. Jasmine Rayford added 12 in the win. Both teams went through shooting struggles in the first half. In the second half the Milford Mill girls picked up the pace and pushed the tempo. Donna Blake's 16 led all scorers for Patterson.
No. 14 Century 53, Liberty 24: In 2A West quarterfinal action, Alice Mercer had 15 points and Jamie Clark added 12 to lead the Knights over the Lions.
Howard 59, Atholton 37: April Kuhn scored 14 points and Brittany Butler put in 13 to lead the Lions over the Raiders in a 3A East quarterfinal game. Howard Led 38-19 at the half.
Patterson Mill 38, Edgewood 31: In 2A North quarterfinal action, Qalea Ismail and Morgan Golec combined for 28 points to lead the Huskies over the Rams. Qalea Ismail led Patterson Mill with 15 points.
