Thanks to capturing its first NCAA Division I championship on Memorial Day, the Yale men’s lacrosse team occupies the No. 1 spot in the final Inside Lacrosse poll released Thursday.
The Bulldogs (17-3) claimed the top ranking after defeating Duke, 13-11, in Monday’s tournament final. The Blue Devils finished at 16-4 and No. 2 in the poll.
Maryland (14-4) and Albany (16-3), two teams that advanced to championship weekend, are ranked Nos. 3 and 4. Loyola Maryland (13-4) is No. 5, and Johns Hopkins (12-5) is No. 6.
No. 7 Denver (13-4), No. 8 Cornell (13-5), No. 9 Notre Dame (9-6) and No. 10 Virginia (12-6) round out the top 10.
The top 20 poll includes four programs that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament and three of them are from the Big Ten. Rutgers (9-6) is the highest-ranked team at No. 13, while Ohio State (8-7) at No. 17 and Penn State (8-6) at No. 20 are not too far behind. The other non-tournament participant is Bucknell (11-4) at No. 16.
