Roundup: No. 2 Mount St. Joseph boys blast St. Maria Goretti, 85-53

Mount St. Joseph held a two-point lead after the first quarter Wednesday, and then the No. 2 Mount attacked the 1-3-1 zone defense with a barrage of 3-pointers and beat host St. Maria Goretti, 85-53.

Mount St. Joseph shot 75 percent for the game and finished with 17 two-pointers and 16 3-pointers. Leading 18-16 after one quarter, Mount St. Joseph went on a 29-9 run fueled by seven 3-pointers in the second quarter.

Kameron Williams led all scorers with 22 points, and Phil Booth added 17. Mount St. Joseph next hosts No. 3 St. Frances at 7p.m. Friday.

No. 13 Annapolis 85, South River 62: Jourdan Stickler scored a game-high 40 points to power the host Panthers (1-0) past the Seahawks (0-2).

No. 15 Centennial 80, Atholton 70: The visiting Raiders (1-1) cut into a 15-point halftime deficit in the second half, but the Eagles went 21-for-29 from the line to win. Keonte Potts led all scorers with 29 points for Centennial.

Loyola 49, Pikesville 34: The Dons (2-2) bounced back from a four-point loss to No. 6 John Carroll on Tuesday by downing the Panthers (0-1) at home.

Boys' Latin 54, Archbishop Curley 36: Eight players, led by Casey Reese with 23 points, scored as the host Lakers (2-2) beat the Friars (3-4).

Mount Hebron 59, Howard 58, OT: Malik Gilmore (eight points) got an offensive rebound and a putback, then was fouled with 1.8 seconds left in overtime. He converted the free throw to lift the host Vikings (2-0) over the Lions (0-2).

Lansdowne 58, Franklin 55, OT: With the score tied at 55 with 1:20 left in overtime, Davon Bailey (12 points) hit a 3-pointer to win the game for the visiting Vikings (2-0). The Indians fell to 0-1.

Girls

No. 4 McDonogh 58, Severn 36: Taylor Cummings had 16 points to lead the host Eagles (1-0) past the Admirals.

The game was tied at 28 at halftime.

No. 7 Roland Park 37, No. 12 Seton Keough 31: The host Gators (0-3) led 14-10 at the break, but ther Reds (2-1) rallied in the second half. Lindsey Edwards had 19 points and Daisy Alaeze added 10 for Roland Park.

Mount Hebron 49, Howard 33: Tianna Wallpher (13 points), Knowlej Thomas and Megan Doherty (12 each) led the visiting Vikings past the Lions.
