Miranda Ibello had two goals and six assists as Maryvale built a lead and held on to upset No. 13 Bryn Mawr, 14-13, in the opening round of the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference girls lacrosse tournament Monday.
The Lions (5-10) had lost to the host Mawrtians, 13-9, a week ago, but they led by as much as 10-5 and were ahead 14-10 with four minutes left. The sixth-seeded Mawrtians pulled within one and won the last draw, but Maryvale's defense held them off for the final 40 seconds.
"It feels like everything finally clicked today," said Lions coach Jessica Randisi, whose team earned its first win over a ranked team. "We've been working on slowing the ball down, getting into our offense and trying out different defenses and it never really seemed to work, but today it did. You can tell that, because nine girls scored."
Ally Blood had four goals and an assist and Mackenzie Kilduff added three goals and an assist for Maryvale. Julia Blaze led the Mawrtians (7-8) with four goals while Hadley Brown and Alex Argo added three each.
The Lions, the 11th seed in the 12-team field, meet No. 3 Archbishop Spalding, the third seed, in Wednesday's quarterfinals.

St. Paul's 11, St. Mary's 7: After a back-and-forth first half, the Gators (9-8) gained much-needed momentum when Sara Moeller fed Reid Sheehan for a 6-5 lead at the break. St. Paul's never trailed the rest of the way, thanks in part to goalie Klia Trentis making six of her seven saves in the second half. Moeller led the host Gators with three goals and two assists and Liza Liotta added three goals while Shelby Harrison had three goals and an assist for the Saints (6-12). The Gators will play at No. 5 Roland Park, the second seed, on Wednesday.
Notre Dame Prep 15, Mount de Sales 9: The Blazers (7-9) won their A Conference first-round game by avenging a 9-8 loss to the Sailors (8-9) two weeks ago as Keegan Barger had four goals and one assist, and Grace Haus had four goals.
