Jihar Williams scored nine of his 14 points during a third-quarter rally to lift host Friends over Glenelg Country School, 56-54, in boys basketball Thursday.
The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference Quakers improved to 8-8 and the A Conference Dragons fell to 9-6. The win marked the first win by Friends over an A Conference opponent. Also, the win ended a four-game winning streak for Glenelg Country and a two-game losing streak for the Quakers.
Friends coach Albert Holley credited the win to his team making jumpers in the second half.
"We made open shots. We were getting open shots in the first half, but we weren't making them," Holley said.
After playing to a 13-all tie in the first quarter, Glenelg Country took a 26-23 halftime lead. The Quakers regrouped and outscored the Dragons 22-16 in the third quarter. And despite being outscored by two points in the fourth quarter, Friends held on to win. Rossano Jones led the Quakers with 17 points, and Anthony Longpre led Glenelg Country with 14 points.

No. 5 Oakland Mills 55, No. 13 Mount Hebron 9: The Vikings entered Thursday's tri-meet with the Scorpions and Wilde Lake confident, riding a 4-0 record. But Mount Hebron was brought down to earth in a 55-9 defeat in which it won only two matches.
Four of the first six matches ended in close decisions, but Oakland Mills (13-2) won each of them at 138, 152, 170 and 182 for a 22-0 lead.
The Vikings' usual 160-pounder, third-place state finisher Connor Strunk, tweaked his surgically repaired shoulder in his first match against Wilde Lake's Ernie Fermin and had to sit out the match against the Scorpions.
Oakland Mills heavyweight Antonio Rozier defeated Nick Suri, 7-2.
Sophomore Jimmy Hayden overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat Julian Capino, 6-2, at 126 pounds, and senior Jeff Hayden received a forfeit.
