Roundup: Dulaney boys basketball upsets Mount Saint Joseph, 69-63

Dulaney senior guards Isaiah Lamb and Scott Harrelson combined for 46 points to lead No. 15 Dulaney past No.2 Mount Saint Joseph, 69-63, Friday night in Irvington.

Lamb led the Lions (5-2) with 25 points and added nine rebounds, and Harrelson finished with 21 points.

Senior forward Jair Williams had 11 points, and point guard Gary Bernardez contributed nine rebounds.

"It takes a total team effort and tonight we had a total team effort.," Dulaney coach Matt Lochte said. "It was a great win."

Mount Saint Joseph (12-3) trailed 57-34 after three periods and drew within nine in the final quarter, but a clutch basket by Bernardez and a 3-pointer by Jimmy Bonner ended the threat.

"It takes something to take that shot and then hit it down and when it drops it puts everybody at ease," said Lochte of Bonner's only points of the night.

Randy Miller (18 points) led the Gaels.

"They came out ready to play and they punched us in the nose and they just kept swinging and swinging," Gael coach Pat Clatchey said.

No. 3 John Carroll 35, Loyola Blakefield 34: Immanuel Quickley (nine points) went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line with 1.5 seconds left to lift the Patriots (15-1) over the host Dons (3-11).

Mount Carmel 77, No. 4 St. Frances 59: Tough defense limited the Panthers (13-5) to five points in the first quarter, and the Cougars (11-6) got the upset.

Will Jenkins scored 28 points and Montez Mathis had 14 points for Mount Carmel.

St. Paul's 74, City 71: The Crusaders (6-6) managed to stay out in front and hold off the Knights (5-2) in the DMV Elite Showcase at St. Maria Goretti.

Zach Bare scored a game-high 35 points for St. Paul's, which led by as many as 15 points. Blair Davis had 22 points for City. The Knights had a chance to force overtime on a 3-point attempt at the buzzer that hit the front of the rim as time expired.

Capitol Christian Academy 56, No. 13 Poly 46: The Warriors (20-4), led by Chris Orlina with 17 points and Nate Watson with 14 points, beat the Engineers (7-4) at the DMV Elite Showcase.

Marcel Thompson had 11 points for Poly.

Chesapeake-AA 55, Patapsco 33: Brook Woreel scored a game-high 21 points to power the Cougars (7-0) past the Patriots (3-5) at the Dundalk Holiday Tournament.

Chesapeake-AA advances to today's championship and faces Overlea, a 70-24 winner over host Dundalk, at 11:30 a.m.

Maryvale 38, North County 25: Shana Hildreth scored 17 points to lead the host Lions (3-5) past the Knights (3-4).

Maryvale led 21-16 at the half.

Wrestling

South River Invitational: No. 12 Old Mill and Huntingtown led after the first day of the South River Invitational on Friday.

The Patriots took a gritty 43-22 decision over No. 9 Sparrows Point before handling Clarksburg, Wilde Lake, Atholton and North County with ease.

"Tomorrow's the big day for us," Old Mill coach Jim Grim said. "We get Huntingtown, Kent Island and South River. I'm looking forward to seeing Huntingtown, because they beat River Hill by 10, Kent Island because they beat us here last year and South River because [coach John Klessinger] has a team that's getting better by the match."

No. 13 South River topped No. 8 Archbishop Spalding, 39-34, in one of the more engaging matches of the day. The Seahawks also beat Annapolis (52-24) and Wilde Lake (72-12) but were hammered by Huntingtown (55-18) and Sparrows Point.

The Cavaliers beat Atholton (51-23), Wilde Lake (66-6) and Clarksburg (57-15) but lost to the Pointers, 42-33.
