Katie Ledecky of Bethesda helped the United States win gold in the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay Thursday at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. She teamed with Shannon Vreeland, Karlee Bispo and Missy Franklin to finish in 7 minutes, 45.14 seconds.

Ledecky, 16, has won three golds in three events at the World Championships. She broke the world record in the women's 1,500-meter freestyle Tuesday and won the 400-meter freestyle Sunday.

On Saturday night, Ledecky will try to cap a perfect meet when she swims in her fourth and final event, the 800-meter freestyle. She won gold in that event at last summer's Olympics.

Anastasia Bogdanovski (Johns Hopkins) placed 44th in the women's 100-meter freestyle at the World Championships. She finished the preliminary heat in 1:07.67, failing to qualify for the finals.

At the U.S. Open Swimming Championships in Irvine, Calif., former Towson High swimmer Felicia Lee won the women's 100-meter butterfly. Lee, who swims at Stanford, had the best qualifying time, finishing in 58.82, and then won the event with a time of 58.94 in the finals.

Former McDonogh swimmer Giles Smith finished eighth in the men's 100-meter butterfly at the U.S. Open with a time of 53.28 in the finals. Thomas Glenn of North Baltimore Aquatic Club placed 20th in the event with a time of 54 seconds in the finals.

Another NBAC swimmer, Patrick Murphy, finished 40th with a time of 55.07.
