State: UMES men fall to Purdue, lose 24th straight on road

Terone Johnson scored 14 points and had six rebounds as the host Purdue men's basketball team beat UMES, 79-50, Tuesday night.
Errick Peck scored nine points for Purdue (9-3), which improved to 8-0 all-time against MEAC opponents.
Kyree Jones led the way with a game-high 23 points for UMES (2-6), which has lost 24 consecutive road games.
Hammons led a 14-0 run as Purdue jumped out to an early 11-point advantage before Johnson hit a 3-pointer to put the Boilermakers up 25-8 with just over eight minutes left in the first half. Purdue held UMES to just 21.7 percent shooting and forced eight turnovers in the opening period to take a 37-17 edge into the break.
It was more of the same in the second stanza as the Boilermakers used a 15-5 spurt to increase their advantage to 26 after Sterling Carter's 3. Purdue went ahead 62-35 with just under eight minutes remaining and cruised to its eighth straight home win.
