Guard Quentin Jones tipped in a missed shot with 1.7 seconds left as host UMBC beat Albany, 71-69, Wednesday night.

Jones went to the offensive glass after guard Rodney Elliott (John Carroll) missed a floater in the lane with about four seconds left.


Jones and Elliott each had 16 points for UMBC (9-16, 5-7 America East), and forward-center David Kadiri came off the bench to score 13.

Jones, who entered the game averaging just 6.9 points per contest, had 11 points at halftime to help his team build a 37-27 lead at the break.

Lafayette 61, Loyola Maryland 44: Dan Trist came off the bench to score 14 points, leading the host Leopards (7-17, 3-10 Patriot League) past the Greyhounds (10-14, 5-8).

Seth Hinrichs added 13 points and seven rebounds to help Lafayette earn its third win in four games. Freshman Michael Hoffman had nine points and four blocked shots.

Franz Rassman and R.J. Williams (St. Frances) scored 10 points apiece for Loyola, which has lost six of its past eight.

The tip-off was moved up two hours in anticipation of a winter storm that was expected to hit the region.

Bucknell 78, Navy 57: Chris Hass led a balanced attack with 15 points to help the host Bison (11-13, 6-7 Patriot) past the Midshipmen (8-16, 3-10).

In a game that was moved up an hour because of an incoming snowstorm, Brian Fitzpatrick had 14 points and seven rebounds and Dom Hoffman scored all 14 of his points in the first half and had eight rebounds for Bucknell. The Bison avenged a 62-61 defeat last month in Annapolis, which ended their eight-game winning streak against the Mids.

Coming off its most decisive conference win in five years, 79-57, over Army, Navy was dominated on the boards 38-27 and committed 18 turnovers to eight for Bucknell. The Midshipmen got 15 points and six rebounds from junior guard Brandon Venturini, who hit five of eight shots from beyond the arc.

St. Mary's 71, York 60: Nick Laguerre (Lansdowne) scored 21 points and the host Seahawks (16-6, 10-4 Capital Athletic Conference) won their second straight, beating the Spartans (4-18, 3-11).

Wesley 67, Salisbury 62: Tim Harwood and Justin Witmer each had 14 points, but the host Sea Gulls (11-11, 6-7 CAC) lost to the Wolverines (19-2, 11-2).

Gettysburg 64, Johns Hopkins 55: The Blue Jays (13-9, 10-5 Centennial Conference), led by Austin Vasiliadis' 13 points, led the entire first half but lost to the host Bullets (10-12, 7-8).

The loss ended a three-game winning streak.

Dickinson 83, McDaniel 61: The host Red Devils (18-4, 13-2 Centennial) used 13 3-pointers to beat the Green Terror (16-6, 11-4).


Haverford 86, Washington College 80: James Drury scored a game-high 22 points, but the host Shoremen (5-17, 4-11 Centennial) lost to the Fords (8-13, 4-11).

Stevenson 64, Messiah 60: Stefon McCray had 16 points and the visiting Mustangs (15-7, 10-5 Commonwealth Conference) made their free throws down the stretch to beat the Falcons (17-4, 11-4).

Albright 82, Hood 62: The host Lions (12-10, 8-7 Commonwealth) used a 25-7 run to beat the Blazers (15-7, 9-6).

Juniata 70, Goucher 51: The starters were held to a combined 21 points as the Gophers (8-14, 3-8 Landmark Conference) lost to the Eagles (14-8, 5-6).

Southern Virginia 85, Frostburg State 72: The host Bobcats (2-19) lost their sixth straight, falling to the Knights (5-13).


Navy 70, Bucknell 61: Kara Pollinger put up a game-high 27 points and Jade Geif added 20 to power the host Mids (19-5, 11-2 Patriot) past the Bison (13-10, 8-5).

Lafayette 58, Loyola Maryland 45: Nai Brown had 13 points for the host Greyhounds (5-19, 2-11 Patriot) in a losing effort.

For the Leopards (13-11, 7-6), Danielle Fiacco (14 points, 14 rebounds) and Emily Homan (10, 10) contributed double doubles.

Johns Hopkins 61, Gettysburg 55: Katie Clark scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Blue Jays (16-6, 13-3 Centennial) past the host Bullets (14-7, 9-6).

McDaniel 67, Dickinson 55: The visiting Green Terror (16-5, 1-4 Centennial), led by Codi McMaster with 17 points, used an 11-2 run to top the Red Devils (4-17, 1-15).

Haverford 61, Washington College 47: The visiting Fords (18-3, 12-3 Centennial) never trailed and the Shorewomen fell to 7-14, 6-9.

Latisha Pledger had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Washington College.

Salisbury 64, Wesley 48: The host Sea Gulls (14-8, 9-4 CAC), led by Sarah Seipp with 16 points, opened with a 10-0 run against the Wolverines (4-18, 1-12).

Frostburg State 75, Southern Virginia 71: Elaina Hummel and Ronje James (Pikesville) each scored 22 points to power the host Bobcats (6-14) to their second straight win, beating the Knights (3-18).

Juniata 68, Goucher 64, OT: Sharnell Huff had 15 points, but the host Gophers (6-15, 2-9 Landmark) were outscored 10-6 in the extra period by the Eagles (11-11, 4-7).

Albright 64, Hood 55: The host Lions (13-9, 7-8 Commonwealth) used a 19-5 run to pull away from the Blazers (5-17, 2-13).

Verkia Smith had 13 points for Hood.

Messiah 76, Stevenson 45: The visiting Mustangs (12-10, 10-5 Commonwealth) were outscored 40-10 in the first half by the Falcons (16-6, 12-3).

York 64, St. Mary's 43: Shana Lewis had 10 points and the host Seahawks (8-13, 5-9 CAC) fell to the Spartans (21-1, 13-1).

Neumann 78, Notre Dame (Maryland) 11: Erika Deppenschmidt had five points in the 10th straight loss for the visiting Gators (1-22, 1-14 Colonial States Athletic Conference). The Knights improved to 14-8, 1-3.


Bowie State doubleheader: Because of inclement weather, the Virginia Union at Bowie State men's and women's games have been moved to Monday. The women will play at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.
