Havre de Grace tennis player Sophie Chang wins her first pro singles championship

Sophie Chang, 20, of Havre de Grace beat Astra Sharma of Australia, 6-3, 7-6 (6), for her first professional singles title at a $15,000 USTA Pro Circuit event on clay at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Chang, ranked No. 303 on the WTA Tour, has six doubles titles, but lost her only previous singles final, a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 4-6 defeat against Barbara Haas of Austria in April 2017 at a $25,000 event in Jackson, Miss., also on clay.

Chang finished the 2017 season ranked No. 309 in the world in singles and No. 180 in doubles.
