Mike Preston's key matchups for Ravens vs. Falcons

The passing game will be key when the Ravens face the Falcons, Mike Preston writes.

Falcons WRs Roddy White and Julio Jones vs. Ravens CBs Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith: Jones and White are unstoppable when quarterback Matt Ryan has time to throw. Jones, the top deep threat, has 44 catches for 620 yards and three touchdowns, while White has 19 receptions for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Smith, because of size and speed, has become one of the best in the NFL, and Webb has made significant progress during the past two weeks as he recovers from a back injury. Edge: Falcons.

Falcons OTs Jake Matthews and Gabe Carimi vs. Ravens OLBs Elvis Dumervil and Terrell Suggs: To beat the Falcons, a team has to get to Ryan, who has completed 149 of 234 passes for 1,850 yards and 12 touchdowns. Suggs and Dumervil have had strong games this season against some of the weaker tackle tandems in the league, and the Falcons pair will certainly be an upgrade over the duo Suggs and Dumervil faced in Tampa Bay last week. Edge: Even.

Falcons CBs Robert Alford and Josh Wilson vs. Ravens WRs Torrey Smith and Steve Smith: The Falcons play some of the worst pass defense in the NFL, allowing 277.7 passing yards per game. The Ravens should be able to get their running game going, and the Smiths should be able to make some big plays over the top. Torrey Smith should be able to get deep off play action passes, and Steve Smith should be able to work the middle of the field. Edge: Ravens.
