Through Feb. 4: Final split of migratory (Atlantic population) Canada goose season. Daily bag limit is two geese and the possession limit six.

First Day Hikes

Jan. 1: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will host 29 guided hikes at 27 state parks as part of a national initiative sponsored by the National Association of State Park Directors. From bird watching to historical presentations and programs, each park will host a unique adventure at varying skill levels and times. A few locations host pet-friendly treks. Saltwater Fishing Expo

Jan. 14: The Frederick chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association will hold its Saltwater Fishing Expo from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Frederick County Fairgrounds at 797 E. Patrick St., Building 9 in Frederick. There will be regional experts plus Ed "The Beard" from National Geographic Channel's "Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks." Check out inshore/offshore tackle vendors, charter captains, custom rod builders and crabbing supplies.

MSSA meeting

Jan. 16: The MSSA Broadneck/Magothy No. 10 chapter meeting will be at 7:30 p.m at American Legion Post 175, 832 Manhattan Beach Road., Severna Park.

Tackle show

Jan. 21: The Maryland Chapter of Heroes on the Water's tackle show will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Co., 4498 Mountain Road, Pasadena.
