Wednesday, Oct. 4: Capt. Chris Karwacki will discuss “Fly and Light Tackle Fishing the Flats of Tangier Sound” at a meeting of the Free State Fly Fishers at 7:30 p.m. at Davidsonville Family Center.

Rod & Reef Slam

Saturday, Oct. 7: The Anglers for Oyster Restoration’ Rod & Reef Slam will be held from 6:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a party and awards from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lowes Wharf Marina Inn in Sherwood. Anglers will fish on three restored oyster reefs. Details:

Potomac tournament

Saturday, Oct. 7: The first Potomac River Rockfish Tournament will be held at Aqualand Marina and Campground in Newburg. Winning fishermean will receive cash awards in the light tackle, trolling and kayak divisions. Proceeds will support Hope4Nichole, a nonprofit that provides breast cancer education and increased awareness while raising money to assist those affected by the disease. Menhaden harvest quotas

Oct. 10: Marty Gary, executive secretary of the Potomac River Fisheries Commission, will discuss the recent Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission actions regarding menhaden harvest quotas when he addresses a meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association at the Patapsco Council No. 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall at 1010 Frederick Road in Catonsville. He will also provide information and answer questions about other pending actions that affect recreational fishermen. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., and the meeting starts at 7:30. Hurd 5K Spooktacular

The race honors the memory of an HCC history major from 1999 to 2003 who was killed in 2008 by a distracted driver who was texting.
