Oct. 7: The Anglers for Oyster Restoration' Rod & Reef Slam will be held from 6:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a party and awards from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lowes Wharf Marina Inn in Sherwood. Anglers will fish on three restored oyster reefs. Details:

Potomac tournament

Oct. 7: The first Potomac River Rockfish Tournament will be held at Aqualand Marina and Campground in Newburg. Winning fishermean will receive cash awards in the light tackle, trolling and kayak divisions. Proceeds will support Hope4Nichole, a nonprofit that provides breast cancer education and increased awareness while raising money to assist those affected by the disease. Hurd 5K Spooktacular

Oct. 28: The Heather L. Hurd 5K Spooktacular will be held at Harford Community College. The race honors the memory of an HCC history major from 1999 to 2003 who was killed in 2008 by a distracted driver who was texting.
