Update on reef projects

Monday, Aug. 28, 2017: David Sikorski, executive director of CCA Maryland, will provide information concerning Chesapeake Bay Reef Projects at the monthly meeting of the Perry Hall chapter of Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Gunpowder VFW Post 10067, 6309 Ebenezer Road. Black bear lottery

Through Thursday, Aug. 31: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for this year's black bear lottery. Successful applicants will receive a permit valid for the four-day hunting season, taking place Oct. 23-26 in Allegany, Frederick, Garrett and Washington counties. Hunters may apply by calling 855-855-3906 (weekdays, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.) or in person at a regional service center or from hunting and fishing license agents across the state. Details at


Fall Gun & Outdoor Show

Sept. 2: The Baltimore County Game & Fish Protective Association will host its Fall Gun & Outdoor Show on club grounds at 3400 Northwind Road in Carney from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with exhibitor setup at 6 a.m. Admission: $5. Vendor tables $10. More information: Call Butch at 443-442-4791.

Summer Slam

Through Sept. 16: The "Summer Slam" tournament will be held on all tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries from the Susquehanna Flats to Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel. Four divisions: angler, fly, kayak and junior (ages 6-14). Entry fee is $40 per division.

Hurd 5K Spooktacular


Oct. 28: The Heather L. Hurd 5K Spooktacular will be held at Harford Community College. The race honors the memory of an HCC history major from 1999 to 2003 who was killed in 2008 by a distracted driver who was texting.
