Annapolis Labor Day Regatta
Sept. 1-2: Entering its fifth year, the Annapolis Labor Day Regatta is a joint venture between the Annapolis Yacht Club and the Eastport Yacht Club. The event has a Saturday distance race for cruising-oriented classes and handicap classes, with windward-leeward races Sunday. One-design classes compete in two days windward-leeward races. Heather L. Hurd 5K Spooktacular
Oct. 27: The 10th Annual Heather L. Hurd 5K Spooktacular will take place at Harford Community College. On-site registration will be in the Susquehanna Center Auxiliary Gymnasium from 8 to 8:45 a.m., with the race starting at 9 a.m. A Halloween-themed activities area, for children ages 10 and younger accompanied by an adult, will be open 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. It will feature bounce houses, crafts, face painting, a costume contest, pumpkin coloring and more. Heather L. Hurd, a Harford County native, was killed in 2008 by a distracted tractor-trailer driver who was texting. Her parents established the race in 2009 to raise money for Remembrance Book Scholarships for deserving HCC students and to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving.
