More and bigger bluefish have been caught in recent days, both trolling, on the chum, as well as on lures when they bust bait. Lots of really fat perch but almost all of them I hear about are caught in the rivers or creeks. Rockfish have scattered some from the hotspots in the upper Bay, and as a result more guys are trolling hoses and spoons and some are live lining now that a few spot have shown up this week.

O.C. Big Fish Classic

White Marlin Open

Aug. 8-12: Register for the White Marlin Open, the world's richest billfish tournament, at whitemarlinopen.com.

Wildlife shoot

Aug. 13: Jay Fleming will lead the full-day Smith Island Photography Excursion in Tylerton. There will be an opportunity to photograph pelicans at the largest nesting colony on the Chesapeake Bay, a still-life –and -portrait shoot with a waterman, and a dusk session with a waterman fishing for crabs in a work boat. Youth Fishing Derby

Aug. 13: MSSA's KI Fishing club's Annual Youth Fishing Derby at Romancoke Pier on Route 8 South will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Awards and lunch at Kent Island American Legion #278 will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

8th annual Hurd race

Oct. 29: The eighth annual Heather L. Hurd 5K Run & Kids Trick or Treat Walk will begin at 9 a.m. at Harford Community College. Registration for the 5K will be 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the Susquehanna Center. The walk for children 10 and younger will begin at 8 a.m. The race honors the memory of Heather L. Hurd, a history major at Harford Community College from 1999 to 2003, who was killed in 2008 by a distracted driver who was texting. The race was founded to raise funds for Remembrance Book Scholarships for Harford Community College students and to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.
