Light tackle tourney

Saturday, June 4: The 13th annual Bass Pro Shop-CCA Kent Narrows Light Tackle & Fly Catch and Release Tournament will have fly, light tackle and kayak divisions. At 56, Vince Cooke is challenging Route 66, the fabled byway that starts in Chicago and ends at the beach in Santa Monica, Calif. Cooke plans to cycle it all — an eight-state trek that will take him across the Continental Divide and through the Mojave Desert — in 28 days.

Trap shoot
Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5: A trap shoot at Carney Rod and Gun Club at 9721 Hilltop Drive will benefit the Colonial Chapter PVA. Participants get a total of 300 shots. The $160 fee covers two breakfasts, two lunches and a banquet Sunday night after the shoot.

Bel Air Town Run

Kids Fishing Day

June 11: The Patuxent Research Refuge and the National Wildlife Visitor Center will host events from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45a.m. and 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Preregister for one session only at 301-497-5887. Novice anglers can learn how to cast a rod, identify fish and enjoy fishing. Equipment will be provided. More experienced youth anglers may use their own equipment (no license required) at the refuge's North Tract location (off Route 198) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. State and refuge regulations and fishing policies apply. Light tackle tips

June 14: Capt."Walleye" Pete Dahlberg of Four Seasons guide service will share light tackle tips and techniques for summer fishing from Solomons Island to above the Bay Bridge when he talks at a meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association. The session at the Patapsco Council No. 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall at 1010 Frederick Road in Catonsville will start at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Use the Beaumont Avenue (side) entrance. It's a woodsy retreat on the Eastern Shore, a 290-acre haven teeming with ducks, deer and the fish that flit along its 2.3 miles of serpentine shoreline. Long in private hands, the grounds are now to be developed as a non-profit sanctuary for wounded war veterans. Its name? Patriot Point.The land, near Cambridge, was purchased this week for $2.3 million by the D.C. Bowl Committee, which runs the Military Bowl football game played each year in Annapolis.

Ocean Games

July 16: The fourth-annual Ocean Games will start at 10 a.m. just off the Boardwalk at Caroline Street. The games feature a WOWSA-sanctioned series of 1-, 3- and 9-mile swims, as well as 4- and 2-mile elite and open paddleboard races as part of the East Coast Sup Cup. And for the first time, an Ultimate disc tournament will be added. The games benefit Johns Hopkins' Brain and Stroke Rehabilitation Program, for which they have raised more than $55,000 since their debut in 2013. Details and registration: oceangamesusa.org.

Casting For Recovery makes no claims to heal. Yet women who've participated in the national non-profit program, which brings breast cancer survivors together for a junket of fly fishing and fellowship, say it buoys their spirits to hook a rainbow trout in a stress-free setting with others who are in the same boat.

Wildlife shoot

Aug. 13: Jay Fleming will lead the full-day Smith Island Photography Excursion in Tylerton. There will be an opportunity to photograph pelicans at the largest nesting colony on the Chesapeake Bay, a still-life-and-portrait shoot with a waterman, and a dusk session with a waterman fishing for crabs in a work boat. Skipjack bike tour
