Kids Fishing Day

June 11: The Patuxent Research Refuge and the National Wildlife Visitor Center will host events from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 and 10 a.m. to 11:15. Preregister for one session only at 301-497-5887 starting May 18 at 9:15 a.m. Novice anglers can learn how to cast a rod, identify fish and enjoy fishing. Equipment will be provided. Light tackle tips
June 14: Capt. "Walleye" Pete Dahlberg of Four Seasons guide service will share light tackle tips and techniques for summer fishing from Solomons Island to above the Bay Bridge when he talks at a meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association. The session at the Patapsco Council No. 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall at 1010 Frederick Road in Catonsville will start at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Use the Beaumont Avenue (side) entrance. Ocean Games

July 16: The fourth-annual Ocean Games will start at 10 a.m. just off the Boardwalk at Caroline Street. The games feature a WOWSA-sanctioned series of 1-, 3- and 9-mile swims, as well as 4- and 2-mile elite and open paddleboard races as part of the East Coast Sup Cup. And for the first time, an Ultimate disc tournament will be added. The games benefit Johns Hopkins' Brain and Stroke Rehabilitation Program, for which they have raised more than $55,000 since their debut in 2013. Details and registration: oceangamesusa.org.

Wildlife shoot

Aug. 13: Jay Fleming will lead the full-day Smith Island Photography Excursion in Tylerton. There will be an opportunity to photograph pelicans at the largest nesting colony on the Chesapeake Bay, a still-life-and-portrait shoot with a waterman, and a dusk session with a waterman fishing for crabs in a work boat. Skipjack bike tour
