Planer boards for rockfish
Monday, April 20: Local angler Skip Zinck will discuss how to use planer boards to catch rockfish when he speaks at a meeting presented by the Broadneck/Magothy River chapter of Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association. Lure selection and rigging tips also will be covered. Brigance run and walk
Saturday, April 25: Former Ravens linebacker O.J. Brigance is holding his second annual 5K run in Canton. Registration for the Brigance Brigade Foundation 5.7-kilometer championship run and 1-mile family run-walk is open at brigancebrigade.org. The run benefits research for and support of families dealing with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a progressive motor neuron disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The Ravens' senior adviser to player development, Brigance was diagnosed with ALS in 2007. He won a Super Bowl with the Ravens after the 2000 season and won a Grey Cup title with the Baltimore Stallions.

Spring Fever Shoot
Saturday-next Sunday, April 25-26: A 20-target 3-D archery shoot for the benefit of the Wounded Warrior Project will be held at Vingt Neuf Bowmen, Maryland State Game & Fish, 8735 Honeygo B'lvd, Perry Hall. Adam Thompson 5K
Next Sunday, April 26: The 4th Annual Adam Thompson 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m. at Harford Community College at 401 Thomas Run Road in Bel Air. The race, on a USA Track and Field certified 5K course, honors the memory of Adam Thompson, an HCC student who was killed in an automobile accident in 2011. Proceeds will benefit the Adam Thompson Memorial Nursing Scholarship at HCC and the Adam Thompson Memorial Education Scholarship at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health. Pro-Formance Fishing
May 5: The Pro-Formance Fishing Team, based primarily in Glen Burnie and Annapolis, is seeking additional members and will hold an introductory meeting at 6 p.m. at Chevys restaurant at Arundel Mills in Hanover. PFT, a member of Maryland BASS Nation, fishes 12 club tournaments a year and participates in MBN and other tournaments. The club welcomes new and experienced anglers who want to learn how to fish for bass. The team currently is accepting only boaters; riders can be added to the waiting list. Red Trout tournament
Sept. 18-20: The Huk Performance Fishing-CCA Red Trout Catch & Release Tournament will be hosted by Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield. The Coastal Conservation Association Maryland event attracts light tackle, fly and kayak anglers, and this year a live bait category has been added. The tournament promotes sustainable, catch-and-release fishing methods in which anglers photograph their catch for digital submittals in lieu of a weigh-in. The Red Trout tournament was founded in 2013 to draw attention to the value of redfish and speckled trout that have been making a comeback in the Chesapeake Bay the past four years.
