Rockfish tips, tactics

Tuesday, April 8: Capt. Greg Buckner of Miss Susie Charters will speak on tips and tactics for spring trophy rockfish season at a meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Patapsco Council No. 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall at 1010 Frederick Road in Catonsville. Bay Bridge Boat Show

Friday through next Sunday, April 11-13: Produced by Annapolis Boat Shows, the show at the Bay Bridge Marina at 357 Pier 1 Road in Stevensville will give experienced and novice boaters a chance to shop for the latest in boats, equipment, electronics, clothing and accessories. Boats of all sizes, from luxury yachts to fishing boats and inflatables, will be displayed, and several pro surf shops will exhibit. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 11-12; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 13. Gun and outdoor show

Join a B.A.S.S. club

April 15: The Pro-Formance Fishing Team, a member of the Maryland Bass Nation, is seeking additional members and will hold an introductory meeting at 6 p.m. at Hellas Restaurant in Millersville. The club is primarily based in Glen Burnie and Annapolis. but has membership throughout the region. The club is fishing 12 club tournaments this year and participates in MBN and other tournaments. It is seeking boaters but can accommodate a few riders, too. It welcomes new anglers who want to learn how to fish for bass competitively in a friendly environment. Spring Sailboat Show

April 25-27: The in-water Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show will feature more than 80 new and previously owned sailboats, plus equipment, electronics, clothing and accessories at more than 100 on-land nautical exhibits and pro surf shops. May 3: The 3rd Annual Adam Thompson 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m. at Harford Community College at 401 Thomas Run Road in Bel Air. The race honors the memory of Adam Thompson, a first-year HCC student who was killed in an automobile accident in 2011. Proceeds will benefit The Adam Thompson Memorial Nursing Scholarship at HCC and The Adam Thompson Memorial Education Scholarship at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health. Endurance swim

May 10: TriColumbia will hold the inaugural Choptank Bridge Swim, a two-distance endurance open- water swim in the Choptank River, the largest river on the Delmarva Peninsula. The Cambridge event consists of a 1.6-mile swim and a 3.6-mile swim along the banks of the Choptank and between the Choptank River Bridge and the Choptank River Fishing Pier. Paddleboard Fun Race

June 28: Paddle Second Chance will hold its second-annual Stand-Up Paddle day of fun racing and fundraising for Operation Second Chance, which serves wounded combat veterans and their families' recovery and transition back to active duty or into civilian life. Aug. 9: The point-to-point running race takes runners down Charles Street, now a National Scenic Byway, from the shops at Kenilworth in Towson to Power Plant Live in Baltimore.
