MSSA light-tackle talk

March 13: Captain "Walleye" Pete Dahlberg of Four Seasons Guide Service will address the Northwest chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association to review the 2017 season, preview 2018 and discuss how to improve your light-tackle experiences this spring for the preseason catch-and-release and the shallow-water bite in the islands.The meeting will be at the Patapsco Council 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall at 1010 Frederick Road, Catonsville. Black drum hearing

Fishing and boating flea market

March 17-18. The Essex-Middle River chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association will hold a fishing and boating flea market 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Commodore Hall, 1909 Old Eastern Ave. in Essex. Bamboo rods

March 21: Jerry Kustich, a master craftsman bamboo rod maker, will discuss his craft at a meeting of Maryland Trout Unlimited. Kustich is one of the small group of cane rod builders who ran the R.L. Winston Rod Co. bamboo shop and later launched Sweetgrass Rods with Glenn Bracket in Twin Bridges, Mont. Kustich’s books include “At the River's Edge,” “A Wisp in the Wind,” “Around the Next Bend,” “A Fly Angler's Journey,” “Holy Water” and “Fly Fishing for Great Lakes Steelhead.” The meeting at Towson Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Kenya Connect 5K

March 24: The Kenya Connect 5K, which helps support teachers and students living in rural Kenya to a brighter future through education, will start at 9 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ellicott City.
